The Radio Community is a South Sudanese non-governmental organization which was legally registered in 2015. The Radio Community (TRC) is leading the way in providing independent, ethical and professional journalism in South Sudan.
TRC operates a network of 6 community-based local language radio stations. Each station provides news, information and entertainment. The organization’s vision is ‘a country where people can make informed decisions about their lives’; and its mission is ‘to a sustainable radio stations that inform, educate and entertain’.

Akol Yam 91.0 FM broadcasts a variety of news, programs, and entertainment from Aweil, Aweil State. Previously known as Nhomlauu FM, the station was relocated to Aweil and re-branded in 2016. Akol Yam, which means “new day” in Dinka broadcasts a variety of content including programs on education, health, agriculture and more.

Mayardit 90.7 FM broadcasts a variety of news, programs, and entertainment 17 hours daily in Turalei, Twic State. Mayardit’s programs vary in content and focus, including education, health, agriculture and other important issues, as well as music, sports and entertainment. Formats range from news and feature magazine programs, to talk shows and special coverage.

Mingkaman 100 FM broadcasts a variety of news, programs, and entertainment 17 hours daily from Mingkaman, Eastern Lakes State, and Bor, Jonglei State. Mingkaman’s programs vary in content and focus, including education, health, agriculture and other important issues, as well as music, sports and entertainment. Formats range from news and feature magazine programs, to talk shows and special coverage.

Kapoeta state didn’t have a statewide radio station until 2016 when The Radio Community and Internews established a community radio station called Singaita FM, which is supported by the USAID-funded i-STREAM project.
The station’s name, Singaita, is from the River Singaita, which cuts across the entire state uniting the three main communities – Toposa, Buya and Didinga. Singaita 88.3 FM runs on solar power and produces local information in local languages and broadcasts 17 hours per day to local communities in the broadcast coverage area of 53-kilometer radius.

We ensure editorial integrity and business standards are maintained. As a media house it plays an advocacy role for independent media and free speech and sources and manages revenue streams to keep the network sustainable.
