PLP terminate Peter Mayen’s membership

South Sudan Minister of humanitarian affairs and disaster management Peter Mayen Majongdit

A political parties in South Sudan has dismissed its member cited lack of compile with the rules and policies.

People’s Liberal Party revoked the membership of Hon. Peter Mayen Majongdit, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs in the Transitional Unity government.

The party is a signatory to the revitalized agreement signed in 2018.

In a statement dated 2nd August 2021, the party terminated the membership of Peter Mayen with immediate effect accused him of gross misconduct, violence, and failure to follow party policies. But the Minister has not yet responded to the claim leveled against him.

“The national leadership Committee of the Peoples’ Liberal Party hereby revoked and terminate the membership of Mr. peter Mayen Majongdit as the interim party Leader and party representative in the OPP and National Per- Transitional Committee, respectively,” the party stated.

The party members said the decision resulted from Mayen’s violent behavior, such as the recent shooting on the football field at Aweil playground.

In April, Mayen reportedly stormed the pitch and demanded his wife, who plays for the Aweil football club, leave the match, and go home.  But he denied shooting into the air to forcefully withdraw his wife from a football game at that time.

This week, several bloggers, and social media share pictures of Footballer Aluel Garang, known as Aluel Messi, being tortured by her husband, Minister Peter Mayen Majongdit. The cause of fighting in their family remains unclear.

A group of coalition parties known as Umbrella also barked the dismissal from OPP’s opposition of Political parties.
